AB Comm Studes Reap Awards

AB Comm students gained honors and recognition for the school when they won in national contests and competitions.

Senior Carlo Jay Cuevas won nominations and awards in UP Cinema’s Piling Obrang Vidyo 6 last December 12, 2009 in awarding rites held at the Cine Adarna of the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Cuevas’ short film “Tintoy” was one of the finalists in the narrative category and received nominations for Best Acting and Best Direction and won the Best Screenplay Award. The film was also adjudged the festival’s second best narrative, bested only by UP Diliman’s “Onse”.

In the same festival, “Preludio Crepuscolario” a film by another senior, Kevin Dayrit, was finalist in the Experimental Category.

There were a total of 30 entries coming from 17 schools from all over the country in this year’s POV. Among the schools which made it to the finals are De La Salle Lipa, Miriam College, Centro Escolar University, Ateneo de Manila University, New Era University, Letran College Manila, International Academy of Film and Television Cebu, College of St. Benilde and host University of the Philippines Diliman. 

Meanwhile, Maria Victoria Casas, another senior student, was ranked third in the recently concluded awarding ceremonies of the Search for The Ten Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Students held at the Knights of Rizal International Headquarters in Bonifacio Drive, Port Area, Manila last December 11, 2009.  There were 20 finalists coming from different colleges and universities nationwide which were eventually trimmed down to the ten distinguished awardees.

Now on its 21^st year, the nationwide search which has awarded more than 200 Jose Rizal Model Students since 1988 is organized by the Supreme Council of the Knights of Rizal to recognize college students who epitomize the Rizalian values of academic excellence, distinguished leadership, exemplary character and service to the community.
